Overview

Central Data Engineering Office (CDEO) in NUHS aims to support NUHS in its efforts to build a data-centric culture and enable faster, well-organised and more impactful data. The office supports NUHS’s goals of “Digital by Default” and “Everyone an Innovator”, and forms part of NUHS’s Data Strategy.

 

Data Engineering (DE) involves the designing, building and managing of infrastructure for collecting, storing and processing large volumes of data efficiently. Data engineering transforms raw data into data assets. Data engineering is a foundational function for effective data analytics and AI capabilities.

 

We are seeking an Executive/Snr Executive/Assistant Manager to support CDEO. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing components within the data engineering life cycle. The candidate will contribute to ensuring the scalability, reliability, efficiency and discoverability of our cloud-based data.

 Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and maintain efficient data pipelines using Databricks and AWS services to support business operations and analytics needs.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather, understand, and prioritize data requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
  • Implement and optimize ETL processes to ensure data quality, integrity, and timely availability for analysis and reporting.
  • Work closely with data scientists, data analysts, and other technology teams in the cluster to support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of data models that align with business needs and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot data-related issues and provide timely solutions, escalating complex problems when necessary.
  • Support the creation of data visualizations and reports to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics.
  • At least 2 years of experience in data engineering or a related role.
  • Proficient in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala).
  • Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and Databricks..
  • Familiarity with Git commands and Unix/Linux system experience.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiar with database management, architecture design, system integration, security and data governance.
  • Good interpersonal skills, a detail-oriented and flexible person who can work across different areas within the team as well as align cross functionally outside the team.
  • Ability to deliver clear, concise reports and presentations/dashboards and effectively articulate observations and recommendations.
