Assistant Manager, General Surgery (Contract till Dec 2025)
The Department of General Surgery (GS) in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) is seeking an Assistant Manager to join the team in conducting health services research with the long-term goal of establishing a hospital-wide Geriatric-Surgical Service.
This is a multi-faceted role, with key responsibilities including subject recruitment, data collection and management, research administration, project management, as well as stakeholder engagement.

Job responsibilities
- Subject recruitment, data collection, and data management:
- Screen patients based on study eligibility and obtain consent for study participation
- Conduct patient interviews (including comprehensive geriatric assessments) and data extraction from electronic medical records
- Maintain database in an accurate and timely manner, ensuring that data entered into the database is consistent with source data collected
- Research administration:
- Ensure that recruitment and database protocols are in compliance with local laws and cluster policies and Domain Specific Research Board (DSRB) standards
- Assist in other research-related tasks (e.g. literature review, ethics applications, and manuscript writing)
- Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI
- Project management
- Submit and present monthly reports and clinical indicators to Programme Director
- Ensure project is in line with timeline and research deliverables are met
- Pre-empt and highlight obstacles to Programme Director and PI
- Assist in grant management (e.g. grant budgeting and claims, quarterly progress report).
- Stakeholder engagement
- Work closely with clinicians to identify potential stakeholders in developing a Geriatric-Surgical Service
- Assist in engaging these stakeholders in a timely manner
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to improve clinical and patients' experience.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will be an experienced research nurse or allied health professional with strong clinical knowledge and background in geriatric care. You should have excellent organization skills and ability to work independently. Experience with data analysis is a plus.
- Good postgraduate/Bachelor's degree in Healthcare disciplines (Physiotherapy, Registered Nurse, etc.)
- At least 1-2 years relevant work experience in healthcare sector preferred
- Proficient in data management tools (Excel, REDCap)
- Possess strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
- Able to handle multiple tasks, take initiative, and work both independently and in teams
- Meticulous, organized, focused on meeting deliverables and targets
- Adaptable to changes and fast-paced environment
