The Dietetic Technician assists the Dietitians in the delivery of nutrition care, enabling them to fulfil their roles effectively in line with the evidence-based practice. The Dietetic Technician supports Dietitians in improving patient’s nutritional status, assists in ensuring that nutrition care and nutrition-related programmes are appropriately delivered. Overall, the Dietetic Technician works within an agreed scope of practice under the direct supervision of a Dietitian to maintain the standards and quality of dietetic services.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the following:
- Ensure nutrition screening is carried out appropriately by nurses, with the guidance of Dietitians.
- Prepare resources/equipment for nutrition assessment and assist Dietitians with anthropometric measurements, eg. Handgrip strength, skinfold, or mid-upper arm circumference measurement.
- Assist Dietitians in collecting relevant background information from patients, family, or caregivers.
- Assist Dietitians in providing basic nutrition therapy advice to patients, family or caregivers.
- Conduct physical or virtual nutrition workshops, after undergoing training by Dietitians.
- Deliver nutrition activities (eg. Basic cooking demonstrations/talks/games) to the public or staff, with guidance from the Dietitians.
- Assist Dietitians in updating the departmental resources.
- Conduct nutrient analysis of menus, recipes, food diaries etc. using nutrient analysis software, with guidance from the Dietitians.
- Assist in quality improvement initiatives/audits in collaboration with Nursing and/or other relevant stakeholders to improve nutrition care delivery to patients.
- Participate in continuing professional development and competency training as required.
- Conduct routine audit on food replicas and equipment to ensure cleanliness.
- Ensure that the electronic/online education/social media materials are well-organised and updated with accurate information.
- Liaise with representatives from relevant healthcare and food companies to arrange product updates and taste trials (eg. New nutritional product launch) after discussion with Head of Department.
- Assist in updating departmental policies and work instructions to document the practices and processes relevant to nutrition care of patients.
- Attend departmental meetings and take minutes as required.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Food Science, Nutrition, Food Service or equivalent.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and nutrient analysis software.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Service oriented and a good team player.
- Positive work attitude and strong work ethics.
