The Opportunity:
We are looking for Phlebotomist to provide assistance to medical staff by providing venepuncture service for the collection of blood specimens for Laboratory investigations for the patients in JurongHealth Campus.
Job Responsibilities:
The incumbent shall be responsible to:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Communicates with patients, explains the blood taking procedure to patients, address queries or concerns raised.
- Communicates with staff and healthcare team, ensures patient safety.
- Performs two patient-identifiers to verify the right blood test is taken for the right patient.
- Practises Universal Precautions throughout the procedure.
- Performs venepuncture for the collection of blood specimens for dispatch to the laboratory in accordance with the standards set.
- Sorts all blood specimens collected, and ensure that they are correctly labeled, and dispatched to the Laboratory in the correct mode.
- Maintains standards and competencies through continuous OJT and in-service education. Attends relevant in-service education/training programmes.
- Maintain patient records and document in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system timely and accurately.
- Escalates work-related issues or concerns to senior or superior.
- Reports any feedback from patient or adverse event timely.
- Informs the nurse –in-charge if they encounter difficulty in obtaining the blood specimen, e.g. patient is not cooperative.
- Reports to supervisor and follows up on faulty equipment /accessories requiring repair or replacement.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Contributes to improving the care process, identifying issues and work together with team to implement changes in the Phlebotomy Service.
- Continuously upgrading of skills and techniques.
- Orientates and guides new Phlebotomy staff.
- Performs any other duties assigned by the Supervisor. Role will be expanded when staff is ready.
Job Requirements:
- GCE ‘N’ / ‘O’, NITEC or Higher NITEC
- Phlebotomist certified by recognised institution.
- Healthcare experience is preferred.
- Good interpersonal skills working with teams of people as this is a patient fronting role requiring interaction with patients, nurses, and healthcare team.
- Able to work across various settings and interact with different teams.
- Show care and concern managing sick patients.
- Possess a positive work attitude.
- Possess good communication skills.
- Able to work independently and be a team player.
