Overview*

The Division of Neurosurgery at the National University Hospital (NUH) is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to conduct recruitment and data collection for ongoing cohort studies in the areas of health outcomes and cognition research in patients with brain tumors and spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.

 

Job Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Initiating and managing research cohort database
  • Screening and recruitment of eligible participants
  • Patient interviews using validated questionnaires and neuropsychological tests
  • Phlebotomy for blood collection and transportation to blood & tissue lab for processing
  • Facilitating imaging scans for patients' neuroimaging protocol
  • Data entry, data management, and data analysis
  • Supervision of student researchers and interns
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Manuscript writing and submission
  • Other research-related tasks (e.g. literature review, grant and ethics applications)

 

Expected results:

  • Able to initiate and manage research cohort well, including managing ethics approval, audit, research collaboration agreements, and grant claims procedures
  • Screen and recruit eligible patients meeting recruitment targets per week for each cohort
  • Manage data entry and data analysis in a reliable and expedient manner
  • Able to support grant writing and manuscript writing for submission to journals

 

Requirements

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, independent learner and detail-oriented
  • Expertise in data analysis (including using R or python)
  • Good writing (scientific writing) skills
