You will provide pharmaceutical care services by ensuring optimal patient outcome, manage inventory and ensure that drugs are dispensed according to protocol and legal requirements. You will also ensure smooth daily operations and profitability of the pharmacy.


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Professional Services
• Accountable for accurate dispensing of medicine to the right patient
• Monitor the activities of assigned pharmacy technicians engaged in the preparation, labelling and delivery of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with physicians’ prescriptions.
• Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations pertaining to the dispensing of drugs and controlled drugs and the maintenance of required needs, to reduce risks of errors.
• Clarify and resolve any prescription ambiguities with the prescribers.
• Identify, assess and resolve any drug-related problems, advise doctors on suitable drugs that provide the best outcome for patients.
• Advise patients and care providers of potential drug interactions, possible side effects, storage information and instructions on how to use their medications.
• Address the needs of the patient for information in order to enhance compliance and self-care.
• Motivate team members to achieve high standards of professional counselling.
• Provide information and advice to healthcare professionals and the community on the selection, dosages, interactions and side effects of medications.
• Offer self-care management advice on minor ailments and health promotion.
• Provide ambulatory care services
• Provide specialized services to help patients manage chronic conditions.
• Monitor the health and progress of patients to ensure the safe and effective use of medication.
• Refer patients to other healthcare professionals and agencies when appropriate.
• Ensure that the team provides professional and courteous service to all patients/customers at all times.

 

2. Inventory
• Ensure that medications are stored appropriately in the pharmacy, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
• Comply with control procedures for loss prevention.
• Enforce security measures for the storage of controlled substances.
• Assist in managing inventory to ensure an optimum level
• Approve orders of pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies and drugs.
• Ensure stock turn days do not exceed KPI targets.
• Conduct stock takes and cycle counts according to the approved policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular checks on expiry date to reduce wastages.
• Assist in preparing reports for cold chain break or other incidents involving inventory.
• Conduct regular audit of all drugs kept in the E-kits, E-trolleys, treatment rooms and immunization rooms in the polyclinics.

 

3. Staff Training & Development
• Orientate and induct newly recruited pharmacy technicians/assistants.
• Provide training and guidance of pharmacy students and pharmacy technician students on attachment.
• Conduct regular training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills of team members and ensure that target training and continuing education hours are met.


4. Administration
Assist the Clinic Pharmacy Manager in the following:
• Maintain the administrative functions necessary for pharmacy operation.
• Adhere to and perform regular audit checks on the accounting, cash handling procedures and policies.
• Prepare the necessary reports accurately and in a timely manner.
• Give regular feedback on improving processes and practices.
• Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventories and controlled drugs registries.
• Assist in scheduling manpower to ensure smooth daily workflow.
• Ensure proper housekeeping of the trading area, dispensary and storeroom.
• Ensure the merchandise is displayed according to set planograms.
• Monitor the profitability of the retail store and suggest action plans or possible products ranges to improve sales performance.
• Investigate and handle patient complaints and dispensing errors promptly.
• Report to the Head of Department (Pharmacy Practice) on dispensing errors and to Head of Department (Pharmacy Operations) on patient complaints.

 

5. Regulatory
• Ensure applicable laws and regulations are met and relevant documentation of compliance is maintained.
• Comply to policies, guidelines or advisories issued by any government agency or the Ministry of Health.

 

6. General
• Coach and supervise team members.
• Participate in work place improvement projects/ activities.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer.

 

Job Requirements
• Degree in Pharmacy
• Registered with Singapore Pharmacy Council and Form A license with Health Sciences Authority
• Keep abreast with changing medical treatments by attending continuing medical education talks and seminars. Achieve mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points and target training hours per year.

• At least 3-5 years of working experience in clinical setting

• Demonstrates the ability to communicate information and ideas well to other healthcare professionals and patients.
• Must have initiative, drive and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Must be team-oriented
• Possess good organisational, analytical and excellent communication skills

 

Working Hours
5.5 days’ work week (non-shift)
