Overview*

The incumbent will work in close partnership with the Facility and Medical Director of Stem Cell Laboratory and Head of Operations of National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) to lead our cutting-edge stem cell research facility. The candidate will oversee all aspects of laboratory operations, including planning and managing of resources, and ensure compliance with local and international regulatory standards while driving innovation in cell therapy and stem cell transplantation. The incumbent will also be required to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on research projects under NCIS.

Job Responsibilities*


Clinical leadership
Provide scientific leadership and strategic direction for the stem cell laboratory and GMP facility.

Oversee the processing, cryopreservation, and storage for clinical use in cell therapy and stem cell transplantation.

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of processing for cell therapy and stem cell transplantation laboratory work.

Provide expertise in troubleshooting complex cases and advising on cell therapy mobilization strategies.

Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of cell therapy products for patient treatment.

Oversee process development, quality and process improvement, and clinical translation work relating to cell therapy products.

 

Operational leadership

Oversee daily laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance and inventory management.

Supervise the evaluation and quality control of cell therapy products before release for clinical use.

Collaborate with a Quality team on quality standards and quality control.

Coordinate with the stem cell transplant team to optimize procedures and improve patient outcomes.

Manage the laboratory budget and allocate resources effectively.

Oversee a team of cell therapy scientists and technologists.

Regulatory compliance

Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, PIC/S and National CTGTP standards, FACT-JACIE standards, and other relevant accreditation bodies (e.g. AABB, HSA, etc).

Research

Collaborate with internal and external partners on research projects and grant proposals.

Prepare and review scientific publications and presentations.

Liaise with institutional review boards and ethics committees as needed.

Participate in the development of novel cell therapies and their translation from bench to bedside.

Requirements*

BSc in Biomedical Science, or a related field. A Masters is preferred.

Minimum of 8 years of experience in stem cell therapy work, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Extensive knowledge of cell biology, culture techniques, and applications.

Experience with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards for cell therapy products.

Familiarity with translational research and clinical applications of cell therapy.

Familiarity with apheresis procedures and equipment.

Experience with CAR-T cell therapy or other advanced cellular therapies.

Knowledge of intellectual property and technology transfer processes.

Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop team members.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
