Assistant Director, Medical Affairs

 

This role sits at the intersection of clinical manpower planning, professional development, medical education, and research advancement. The successful candidate will combine strong clinical credibility with strategic foresight to shape a high‑performing clinical workforce, foster a culture of continuous learning, and enhance the hospital’s research and innovation capabilities.

You will play a key role in positioning the hospital as a centre of excellence in patient‑centred care, education, and healthcare innovation.

 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Manpower Planning & Management

  • Develop and implement comprehensive clinical workforce strategies across all medical specialties
  • Partner with department heads, HR, and senior management to plan short‑ and long‑term clinical manpower needs
  • Ensure optimal staffing levels while balancing patient care demands and budget considerations
  • Identify and address critical skill gaps and workforce shortages

Professional Development & Career Advancement

  • Design and oversee structured training and development programmes for clinicians at all career stages
  • Lead continuing medical education (CME) programmes to meet accreditation and professional requirements
  • Establish mentorship, succession planning, and clinical leadership development frameworks
  • Collaborate with academic institutions to develop advanced training programmes and fellowships
  • Promote continuous professional growth through workshops, conferences, and digital learning platforms

Medical Education

  • Develop and evaluate comprehensive medical education programmes for residents, fellows, and attending physicians
  • Strengthen partnerships with medical schools and academic institutions
  • Implement innovative teaching approaches, including simulation‑based training and e‑learning
  • Ensure educational quality through robust assessment and feedback mechanisms

Research & Innovation

  • Develop and execute strategies to expand the hospital’s research capabilities and output
  • Oversee the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards
  • Foster a strong research culture through mentorship, incentives, and resource support
  • Facilitate collaborations with universities, research institutes, and industry partners
  • Identify funding opportunities, manage grants, and ensure effective utilisation of research resources
  • Drive translation of research findings into clinical practice improvements

Data, Performance & Quality Improvement

  • Lead analysis and reporting of clinical manpower and performance data
  • Conduct benchmarking against national and international standards
  • Integrate education and research initiatives with quality improvement and patient safety programmes
  • Develop research projects aimed at improving patient outcomes and care efficiency

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Represent Medical Affairs in key hospital committees and external forums
  • Build strong relationships with medical schools, professional bodies, and healthcare authorities
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership, department heads, and clinical staff
  • Present strategic recommendations and performance reports to executive leadership and the hospital board

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage budgets for manpower development, education, and research initiatives
  • Ensure cost‑effective use of resources while maintaining high standards
  • Conduct cost‑benefit analyses and identify additional funding opportunities

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent)
  • Postgraduate qualifications in healthcare management, human resources, or related fields preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of clinical experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role
  • Demonstrated success in workforce development, education, or performance improvement within a hospital setting
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, clinical quality metrics, and healthcare economics
  • Experience leading change management and organisational transformation
  • Familiarity with healthcare accreditation standards (e.g. JCI, ESS) and regulatory requirements
