Overview
- As a Junior Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for delivery of patients’ service in the work area in a personalised, specialised and cost-effective way in accordance to established hospital policies, procedures and standard of practices.
- You will also be required to provide laboratory support for all clinical cases that require Lung Function tests, Allergy tests and Sleep monitoring studies.
Job Responsibilities
- Co-operate with doctors and other health-care providers in the smooth delivery of services to patients.
- Ensure that all procedures scheduled for patients are performed well and to oversee the Lab’s smooth operations daily.
- Perform a variety of pulmonary function tests (eg spirometry, NIOX-ENO, static lung volumes, Impulse Oscillometry, diffusion capacity, bronchial provocation tests) and sweat testing as requested by clinicians.
- Perform allergy tests as requested by clinicians.
- Monitor and optimise utilisation of procedure rooms.
- Responsible for preliminary test reporting, record results in computer system and ensure reports are given to the doctor-in-charge to vet.
- Ensure accuracy and reproducibility in the performance of each test and accurate documentation of results within stipulated timeframe.
- Coordinate with various departments /clinics/wards on urgent requests for Lung Function test and Allergy test procedures as ordered by doctors.
- Ensure maintenance and replacement of Lab equipment, instruments and inventories on fixed assets are carried out and properly documented.
- Ensure that stock inventory and consumables are adequately maintained, replenished and that there is proper and economical usage.
- Initiate, follow up and complete procurement of skin prick extracts, lancets and other equipment in a timely manner to ensure that there are no preventable stock shortages and all extracts are within validity period.
- Ensure that all equipment and instruments are checked / calibrated and in good working condition including emergency equipment.
- Supervise, coach and guide staff (including new staff) to deliver excellent patient care and clinical duties toward meeting organisational goals.
- Develop, implement and evaluate quality standards on clinical procedures in laboratory.
- Manage patients’ feedback/enquiries, perform service recovery and provide information when appropriate.
- Attend to telephone enquiries / calls and trace results when requested.
- Assist in patients’ registration and make appointments.
- Lead or participate in service quality activities / program.
- Attend in-service lectures and course.
- Keep a statistical report of the lab’s output.
- Any additional responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Job Requirements
- Diploma in Medical Science / Biotechnology.
- 2 - 3 years of related work experience in clinical service preferred.
- Have good computer literacy.
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, willingness to learn, have good initiative and be self-motivated.
- Keen to work with children in a clinical environment.
