About Department and Purpose of the Position

The Job Holder will be part of a dynamic team of Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and Software Developers working at the innovative intersection of Complex Care, Population Health, and Artificial Intelligence. Working closely with clinicians and operational teams, they will research, develop, and deploy advanced AI applications and solutions that drive meaningful improvements in patient care outcomes and operational efficiency at NUH.


The Job holder will take ownership of the end-to-end AI application development lifecycle — from problem framing and exploratory analysis through to application development, deployment, and monitoring in production environments. They will apply their knowledge of application development, large language models and AI frameworks to complex healthcare landscape, translating clinical & operational constraints into scalable, evidence-based solutions. The role also involves close collaboration with different service team to ensure AI applications are integrated seamlessly.


The Job Holder is also responsible for the integrity and security of application developed, applying proper data governance and protection practices across all initiatives in line with NUH's mission and vision.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • AI Solution Development
    • Lead the research, design, and deployment of LLM-based and agentic AI solutions to address clinical and operational challenges
    • Design and maintain automated data pipelines and prompt engineering workflows to support LLM application development
    • Clean, preprocess, and validate data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines
    • Apply advanced natural language processing methods to explore and extract insights from large healthcare datasets
    • Develop and deploy LLM-powered applications and agentic AI systems, including multi-agent orchestration frameworks
    • Design and implement LLM-powered solutions for care pathway optimisation, clinical decision support, and automated documentation
    • Provide advanced AI development support for clinical research and quality improvement initiatives
    • Collaborate with GTO and AIO for integration of LLM solutions with existing clinical platforms and data infrastructure
    • Develop application performance monitoring frameworks and explainability outputs to assess solution effectiveness and communicate findings clearly to non-technical clinical and operational audiences

 

  • Data Quality and Monitoring
    • Monitor data integrity through systematic validation and quality checks
    • Identify patterns, trends, and correlations in healthcare data
    • Prepare clear reports and intuitive visualisations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Collaborate across teams to understand and address data needs

 

  • Data Governance and Protection
    • Ensure compliance with NUHS Data Governance Guidelines, PDPA, HBRA, and relevant regulations
    • Implement data security measures, access controls, and secure data-sharing protocols
    • Process database access and data extraction requests, including anonymisation
    • Ensure responsible and ethical AI/LLM implementation

 

  • Other Duties
    • Any other duties assigned by Reporting Officer

 

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in data science or a related field, with exposure to healthcare environments preferred
  • Demonstrated experience developing and deploying LLM applications in production environments, with a GitHub portfolio showcasing LLM/AI agent projects and clear documentation of role and contributions
  • Hands-on experience building agentic AI systems beyond academic coursework, evidenced through public repositories, deployed applications, or detailed project case studies
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, R and/or SQL
  • Experience integrating and working with pre-built AI/ML models and LLM APIs in application development contexts
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, MLOps, and DevSecOps practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate clinical / operation contraints into AI application solutions
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex findings to non-technical audiences
  • Team player with a positive attitude and ability to work within deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems
  • Proven track record in stakeholder management and project delivery
  • Strong attention to detail and rigour in application development and deployment
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification or higher would be an advantage
