About Department and Purpose of the Position
The candidate will be responsible for managing research administrative activities in the Department of Haematology-Oncology at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS), NUH. The department is deeply engaged in translational and clinical research, with strong partnerships across the pharmaceutical industry, research institutes, and grant funding bodies. In this role, the candidate will play a key part in supporting and advancing research administrative activities that contribute to meaningful progress in cancer care.
The position plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of start-up activities for sponsored research studies as well as Investigator-Initiated Trials at the Haematology-Oncology Research Group (HORG), NCIS, working in close collaboration with study sponsors, research collaborators, and clinical research coordinators.
Managing a portfolio of studies, the candidate will provide crucial support to Principal Investigators by ensuring compliance with departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs), institutional policies, and relevant regulatory requirements to facilitate the smooth initiation of research studies.
This is a contract position with the possibility of renewal, subject to performance and the operational needs of the department.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibiilities
You will be responsible for the following:
Clinical Trial Start-Up
The candidate will oversee the start-up of both investigator-initiated studies and industry-sponsored clinical trials, including ethics and regulatory submissions, agreement and budget negotiation.
a) Ethics and Regulatory Submission
- Work closely with doctors, collaborators, and pharmaceutical companies on ethics and regulatory submissions
- Prepare DSRB and HSA submission dossiers
- Draft DSRB applications for investigator-initiated studies
- Assist investigators in addressing queries from DSRB and regulatory bodies
b) Clinical Trial Agreements and Study Budgets
- Serve as the key liaison between pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisations, the NUHS Research Office, and study principal investigators for clinical trial agreement review and negotiation
- Prepare study budgets in accordance with study protocol designs
- Lead budget negotiations with pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisations, and research collaborators
Other Duties
- Support the planning and execution of the annual NCAM conference
- Coordinate joint business meetings with external partners such as pharmaceutical companies and research corporations
- Register investigator-initiated trials on ClinicalTrials.gov
- Assist with other clinical trial start-up activities and ad-hoc duties as assigned
Key Requirements
- Relevant degree in science, biomedical sciences, life sciences, biochemistry, biotechnology, medical laboratory science, health sciences, or a related field.
- Prior experience in research administration or clinical trial start-up activities is an advantage, though fresh graduates are welcome to apply
- Familiarity with relevant regulations including the HBRA, Health Products and Medicines Act, Health Products (Clinical Trial) Regulations, and PDPA is an advantage
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel for document preparation and budget management
- Strong reporting, financial, and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Good team player with a keen interest in research administration
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive in approach
