Overview:
To perform clinical activities and administrative work associated with the running of the Hospital’s Kidney Transplant Programme, including the coordination of patients’ referrals and pre-transplant evaluation. Correspondence with the relevant legal authorities and Ministry of Health (MOH) officials on policies in relation with the Kidney Transplant Programme is expected, and ensure that there is no contravention of the legislation as regards organ donation and transplant during the kidney transplant process.


Job Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the following:

  • Attend to and evaluate referrals by renal physicians for live and deceased donor transplant from National University Hospital (NUH); other restructured hospitals; and private hospitals in Singapore or otherwise (overseas referrals only apply to Live Donor Kidney Transplantations);
  • Assist potential donors and recipients in the entire kidney transplant process, which includes providing counselling and conducting transplant workup for potential donors and recipients, as well as their family members who are considering live donor kidney transplant;
  • Provide counselling to patients and their families for those patients with no overt contraindications and are considering deceased donor kidney transplants;
  • Maintain close connections with all stakeholders and MOH officials pertaining to organ donation and transplantation;
  • Assess patients’ suitability regularly to maintain suitable patients on the Kidney Transplant Waiting list, which involves scheduling laboratory investigations; tracing and documentation of results; scheduling appointments; and arranging clinic reviews;
  • Evaluate and prepare a patient for deceased donor kidney transplant when he/ she has been selected for it;
  • Attend ward rounds and clinic sessions where discussion regarding patients’ progress are held and assist in scheduling of investigations reflected in the kidney transplant protocol; and
  • Provide discharge teaching to newly transplanted patients and assist in the follow-up care of complex post-kidney transplant patients.


Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years working experience preferred (post-basic qualifications in ICU nursing or OT would be an advantage); or a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology; Arts and Social Science majoring in Social Work; or Life Sciences;
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant working experience, preferably in a healthcare setting;
  • Mature and pleasant personality;
  • Possess drive and initiative;
  • Able to work independently and well under pressure;
  • Willing to be on-call; and
  • Computer proficiency is essential.
